Rewarding User Contributions

Using simple modals to enhance community engagement and loyalty by acknowledging and rewarding the valuable contributions of community members.

User Type: Contributors in Community-Centric Platforms

Domain: Universal

Jimo Feature Used: Modals

Aspect: Adoption

The Challenge:

We're all about making our users feel like VIPs, especially those who are always there, making the community better with their insights and actions. The goal? Boost engagement by recognizing their contributions in a rewarding way. But here's the twist: we want to turn the act of leaving a review into a feel-good moment, showing our users that their opinions aren't just heard—they're celebrated and rewarded.

The Solution:

We're rolling out a smart Jimo modal that hits the sweet spot with:

  • Incentive Review Modal: A sleek pop-up that not only invites users to leave a review but also highlights the opportunity for a reward, emphasizing that their valued insights come with perks.

  • Smart Segmentation: Tailored to reach the right users at the right time, making each nudge feel personal and well-timed.

  • Success Tracking (Coming Soon): Plans to add a feature that keeps tabs on these rewarding interactions, enhancing the feel-good factor.

Step-by-step Guide:

Planning Your Review Request:

  • Set Clear Objectives: Pin down what you're hoping to achieve with the review request. Are you looking to boost your platform's visibility, improve credibility, or gather actionable feedback?

In our example, we'll focus on getting positive feedback and recommendations through G2 reviews.

  • Starting Point: Decide on the ideal moment in the user journey for this request. It could be after a positive interaction, a milestone achievement, or when the user has gained enough experience with your platform.

We're gonna use a custom segment and public URL to be able to trigger the review request anywhere but only for hand-picked users.

Figure out the best time and place within your platform to ask for a review. You want this to feel natural and not interruptive.

Using a Template:

  • Based on your planning, choose a template that aligns with your goals. For requesting user reviews, there's an example with G2 in our Templates. We'll adapt this "Ask users to leave a review on G2" template to go further.

  • Customize the selected template to fit your platform's unique features and branding.

You can start by defining the overall look of your onboarding, themes are here to help.

On this template everything is straightforward, do not forget to edit the CTA.

Designing the Experience:

  • Craft a message that's both inviting and appreciative. Let your users know how much their feedback means to you and the community.

Make sure to thank users for their time and contributions. Clearly explain how and where they can claim their rewards.

  • Add an engaging image or animation that ties in with the reward. A visual representation of the reward can boost engagement.

We can use the image to catch the eye of our users with the reward.

  • You can provide a secondary CTA or embed links to relevant guidelines, enabling users to be guided on how to do a good review or how to claim the reward.

It's the perfect occasion to mix CTAs and embedded links to give your users all the resources they'll need to perfect their review of your app.

Target & Publish:

Utilize Jimo's user-friendly builder and target settings to set up your modal, defining rules for its initiation (e.g., user's specs, navigation to a particular section).

Trigger

  • To finalize your first draft, start with the most practical way for you to trigger, it will help you test.

The default trigger is perfect for testing from a single URL starting point.

Where

  • Use the "Where" setting to specify the URLs or app sections where the modal should be triggered. Avoid using Everywhere without a manual Jimo initialization, it will prevent triggering your onboarding on login pages or other bad timings.

For a well-timed experience, you might start with a single homepage and expand it to everywhere if you only target a few specific users via the Who field.

In our example, for safety, we will use filtered URLs to trigger the review request only from multiple pages that are the main dashboards our power users will be working on. (We also added our testing environment to the domains).

Who

  • Define your target audience within Jimo's settings, ensuring that the review request reaches the right users at the right time.

In our case, we want to target on-the-fly users who already answered positively to an in-app survey or whom we manually tagged "Reviewer".

  • Use segmentation to tailor the review experience to different user groups, such as oldest sign-ups or users who have completed all your other tours & surveys.

You can use a few default attributes but segmentation will be limited if you don't first identify your users.

For the most accurate way to identify new users, we advise you to get in touch with your tech team to set up a custom attribute manually or via our integrations.

When

  • You can schedule the tour to trigger, in the case of request review with a monetary reward, it's advised to add an expiration date.

  • Regarding the recurrence and priority, it's a good idea to use a custom time recurrence with a low priority. The point is to regularly ask for this review but only if he's up to date with all other communications.

Testing and Refinement:

  • Test the all URLs you need to start your onboarding from in the test bar of the Where field.

  • You can preview your experience while editing or use a test link once in the settings.

Here's a tip: Use a Team segment to test in real conditions while keeping it hidden from your users.

Conduct user testing with a small group to collect feedback on the modal's clarity, engagement, and overall effectiveness by doing a few live review requests.

Launch and Analytics Monitoring:

  • Deploy the optimized experience, ensuring functionality across different devices and platforms.

  • Monitor the experience's performance through Jimo's analytics, focusing on user engagement and completion rates.

  • Refine the modal based on feedback, adjusting content, reward, and interactive elements as needed.

You can use the results of your review request to segment more advanced experiences or reminders based on the interactions on this modal.

Benefits
  • Increased User Reviews: Encouraging reviews with a reward-based approach leads to a higher volume of valuable user feedback, enriching the platform's credibility.

  • Enhanced User Experience: Users feel valued and seen, increasing their overall satisfaction and loyalty to the platform.

  • Efficient Engagement Strategy: Utilizing modals for review requests streamlines the engagement process, making it both effective and user-friendly.
