# How to start?

Five steps take a new workspace to a first experience live for real users. The same five steps as the Get Started page in your dashboard, in the same order, so you can keep both open side by side.

<figure><img src="https://2794860263-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2FKzAcDWQbK1gKbpra7bkb%2Fuploads%2FYPz7oW49DXNSKFxSAWea%2F05-five-steps.png?alt=media&#x26;token=ae662284-c278-44e2-ba3f-9f0524ecd54f" alt="The five steps of the Get Started page and who does each"><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

## The five steps

{% stepper %}
{% step %}

### Workspace created

Check what was set up when you created the workspace: your product, what Jimo knows, what it built, how it looks. Invite your team.

Who does it: you. Page: [Your workspace](/docs/getting-started/your-workspace.md).
{% endstep %}

{% step %}

### Install the Chrome extension

Build and preview on your own app before anything is installed.

Who does it: you. Page: [Install the Chrome extension](/docs/getting-started/install-the-chrome-extension.md).
{% endstep %}

{% step %}

### Create an experience

Open the drafts generated for you, finish one, preview it.

Who does it: you. Page: [Create your first experience](/docs/getting-started/create-your-first-experience.md).
{% endstep %}

{% step %}

### Install Jimo

Add the snippet to your app and identify your users.

Who does it: a developer, or a coding agent, with the block this page gives you. Page: [Install Jimo](/docs/getting-started/install-jimo.md).
{% endstep %}

{% step %}

### Publish

Target it, publish it to yourself, then to everyone.

Who does it: you. Page: [Publish your first experience](/docs/getting-started/publish-your-first-experience.md).
{% endstep %}
{% endstepper %}

Then [What to build next](/docs/getting-started/what-to-build-next.md) picks up where the Get Started page stops.

## Before you start: who can add a script to your app?

Steps 1, 2, 3 and 5 are yours. Step 4 needs someone who can add a script tag to your application's head, or who manages your tag manager. In most teams that is not the person reading this page, and waiting for them is the number one reason a trial ends with nothing live.

<figure><img src="https://2794860263-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2FKzAcDWQbK1gKbpra7bkb%2Fuploads%2FZd6z6AUcA5sBmK3NlZiz%2Fn06-routes-to-snippet.png?alt=media&#x26;token=65d7ae54-2a9b-4cd5-b8c7-cc93de4acf54" alt="Four routes to the snippet in your app&#x27;s head: you, a developer, a tag manager, IT or an agency"><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

Answer now, and act on it today rather than at Step 4:

| Who | What to do now |
| -------------------------- | -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| Me, I can edit the app | Nothing yet. Step 4 takes about an hour when you get there. |
| A developer on my team | Open [Install Jimo](/docs/getting-started/install-jimo.md), use **Share Instructions to Engineer** on the Get Started page, or send them the page link. Ask for a date. |
| Through Google Tag Manager | Same page, GTM route. The person who owns GTM can do it in minutes. |
| IT or an external agency | Send the page and the [CSP and identity verification](/docs/getting-started/install-jimo/csp-and-identity-verification.md) sub-page together, security questions come first with them. |

{% hint style="warning" %}
**Three things trials that go live have in common.** A named owner on your side, a developer you can reach during the trial, and work done on your own app rather than on a demo site. If one is missing, fix that before building anything.
{% endhint %}

## Your trial

<figure><img src="https://2794860263-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2FKzAcDWQbK1gKbpra7bkb%2Fuploads%2FJsX5wAhQXtlKpPPIKfi0%2Fn05-trial-timeline.png?alt=media&#x26;token=2d79f3cd-e4f4-4aa7-b09c-c40436a5c320" alt="Trial timeline: 2 weeks, snippet installed, 2 more weeks"><figcaption><p>About a month in total</p></figcaption></figure>

The trial lasts 2 weeks, plus 2 more weeks once the snippet is installed on your app: about a month in total. The counter sits at the top of the sidebar, on the Get Started entry.

During the trial, Get Started is the first item in the sidebar. After the trial it moves under the help icon at the bottom of the sidebar, with the same content.

## What was done for you

When you created the workspace, a short guided setup asked for your product's URL and your goal, then generated a first set of drafts in a Space named **Onboarding**. It is the same five steps as the Get Started page, asked as questions. Step 1 shows what it produced; Step 3 starts from its drafts.

The **Ask Jimo AI** button at the top of the Get Started page is different: it opens the Jimo Agent, trained on this help center. Ask it anything you would ask in the chat.

## What you need

* A Jimo account with a role that can publish. See [Roles and permissions](/docs/getting-started/your-workspace/roles-and-permissions.md).
* Google Chrome for the extension. Other browsers are not supported for building.
* Access to your own application, logged in as a real user. Building on a demo site teaches you the builder, not your product.
* For Step 4: someone who can edit your app, see above.
